What is a detox soup anyway?

This is probably the healthiest thing you’ll ever put in your body, hands down! I use this soup during any transition, (hectic time at work, before or after a vacation, when feeling a sickness coming on) and as an emergency immune system boost for the whole family. I’ve also found it comes in handy when I need to hit that reset button after holiday time before returning back to our healthy rhythm of eating.

There are a few different variations of this soup, all using a good quality bone broth, plus a variety of spices and vegetables of all colors with the option of adding concentrated vegetable powders of high quality. The last part is totally optional but when I see a good product, I must scream it from the rooftops!

Veggie powder additions:

This recipe is based on the suggestions of Dr. Thomas Cowan, author of Cancer and the new Biology of Water, who shares my belief that every bite you take should be providing a positive function inside the body. The veggie powders that are part of this soup make excellent short cuts for some concentrated nutrition but of course the soup can be made without.

Here’s a bit more info on the powders...

What is Antishaba powder

A member of the angelica family, ashitaba is native to the islands of Japan and the Philippines. Partial to rich, volcanic soils near cooling ocean breezes, ashitaba is more nutrient dense than other commonly eaten garden vegetables and contains a remarkable phytonutrient called chalcones in the stems, which is being studied for its powerful anti-cancer effects. Ashitaba has a common name, "Tomorrow Leaf", which suggests one of its primary attributes: the ability to grow a new leaf in the spot where another leaf was harvested. Perhaps it is this tremendous vitality that explains the traditional wisdom that consuming powdered ashitaba daily will make the user look younger and younger the longer they take it.

All of the ashitaba in these powders was either grown domestically in biodynamic gardens, dehydrated with low heat and packed in Miron jars. Check out more ways to add Antishaba and other veggie powders to your diet below. (including my favorite Raw Cacao Chunks!)

Threefold blend

This powder is a combination of Organic carrots, leeks, kale, Swiss chard, peppers. When you don’t have time to chop up a ton of veggies, this is the most wonderful shortcut known to mankind. Remember, this soup is used for a quick, concentrated source of veggies for times of physical stress and transition on the body and by no means needs to be eaten every day as a substitution for real, whole foods. It’s merely another wonderful hack to add to your kitchen witchery cupboard.

Add them to anything!

I use them when making ground meat, soups (obviously), on roasted veggies, popcorn, cauliflower rice, and even on top of some full fat yogurt. Food is medicine and the best quality whole foods should be used at every opportunity.

Note: I usually freeze these in glass mason jars or containers. You may notice that when cooled a layer of fat forms on top. This is a good thing and will blend back into the soup once heated again.

*use organic veggies whenever possible and wash your produce well.
