Tera's Whey Protein Powder

Last summer I began recipe-testing for my new smoothie cookbook that's due out this year! Each smoothie is packed with superfoods, contains no added sugar, and is very high in protein. The protein powder I used in every shake was Tera's Whey.

I often get asked, "But how do you know what to look for in a protein powder?" Well for one thing, it should contain real ingredients, and if you’d like to take it a step further, you might want to know where these ingredients come from. For many of my busy, active clients, I recommend they get their nutritional insurance with high-protein smoothies since they can be a tremendous vehicle for daily nutrition. To round out your shake as the perfect centerpiece, Tera’s whey, one of the only organic whey producers in the world gets my Nutritious Yogi golden star.

Here’s what I look for in a protein powder, and here’s how Tera stacks up:

*Ingredients & Processing-  Made in the heart of Wisconsin, the whey is sourced from local cheese farmers and laced with honest ingredients like real vanilla, & fair trade cocoa, and are sweetened with stevia, not sucralose (splenda) like most powders at your popular vitamin shops. My favorite thing about Tera’s whey is the processing of the powders, or shall I say...”lack of”. Made in small batches, their organic, rBGH-free cow, and goat whey proteins are concentrated in cool temperatures, and quickly dried, resulting in a non-denatured source of whey protein.

*Protein content- at 20g+ per serving, it’s the perfect powder to consume around workout time. In general, whey is one of the best proteins in general for its glutathione, a powerful antioxidant and detoxifier.

*Taste- Very soft flavors and no artificial taste! With 10+ flavors to choose from, including tart cherry, coffee, & acai,  yet the most popular with my clients is the good ole fashioned bourbon vanilla since it goes well with almost any addition.

*Price & Availability- When it comes to quality ingredients in a protein powder, it will always come at a slightly higher price. Definitely not a cheap powder, but I’d rather pay a few extra dollars for a product I trust.

Tera’s whey is available at most Whole Foods and other health food stores, as well as online. Boston clients, you can order from me directly for some great prices!

Then check out these great shakes you can make!
